New stadium in Birmingham booked for full slate of events

The Birmingham Metro CrossPlex, a new multipurpose sporting facility in Alabama’s largest city, already has a fully booked calendar of events despite the fact that it will not open until August 20, reports the Birmingham News.

The stadium, a $46 million enterprise previously known as the Fair Park project, will include a track and field venue as well as a natatorium and meeting space. While the pool has already been booked for events set to take place within a week of the center’s grand opening, the busiest part of the stadium will be its track.

From the start of the track and field season, which commences in December, the Birmingham Metro CrossPlex will host meets featuring the University of Alabama-Birmingham, Birmingham-Southern College, Samford University, Auburn University, Conference USA, the Southwestern Atlantic Conference, the Southern Conference and the Big South Conference.

In addition, the stadium will also host an array of track events at the high school and middle school level, including the state championships.

According to WomenSportsJobs.com, arranging the schedule for a major stadium such as the Birmingham Metro CrossPlex is the responsibility of a booking coordinator. This position typically requires that applicants have a master’s degree in sports or business administration.
